Philosophy

Copyism is a philosophy which holds that copying and sharing information is supremely beautiful and virtuous.  It is an honor when information one has created is copied - it is a sign that one's work is useful to others.
  • All knowledge belongs equally to everyone
  • The search for knowledge is sacred
  • The circulation of knowledge is sacred
  • The act of copying is sacred
All people should have access to all information produced. This will lead to an unprecedented increase of knowledge for humanity.

Data are ideas.  Ideas are data.

Ownership of ideas is a sin.  It makes all humanity stupider than it need be.  All data to all!

A person who lives according to Copyist doctrine - who copies freely and happily - is a Copyist in soul even if they are unfamiliar with Copyism as a philosophy.

In our belief system communication is sacred. Communication must be respected. It is a grave sin to monitor, track, and eavesdrop on people.

The rights of privacy and anonymity are holy in the philosophy of Copyism.

The pernicious doctrine of Intellectual Property, with its cults of Copyright and Patent, is our absolute opposite.  Its adherents believe in ownership of ideas, and that free flow of ideas ought be restricted for private gain.  They seek to obstruct copying, which is the most vile of all goals.

Copyism is compatible with most mainstream religions as well as atheism.  Copyism does not make any assertions about the existence or nature of a deity. Copyism does not provide rules by which to lead one’s life.  We assert only that copying is holy and good.

We challenge all copyright believers.  We challenge those with influence in politics, who derive their power by limiting people’s lives and freedom. What they want most of all is to restrict knowledge to the few. We need must steel ourselves against their hatred and aggression.
  • Copy!  Download! Uplooad!
  • All knowledge to all!
  • Information is not to be chained by the law
